About Emma
With a no. 1 album and recognition from Q Magazine and Glamour, Emma Ballantine is rapidly attracting acclaim for powerful songwriting and a 'shapeshifting vocal gift' (Gigslutz). Her music is inspired by artists including Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos and Kate Bush, weaving together folk and contemporary influences to create her distinctive, storytelling style.
A finalist in the UK Unsigned Songwriter of the Year competition, her music has been played by BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing, and she has been described by Resonance FM as 'a unique voice among modern songwriters'.
“I listened first and thought it was fantastic in every way. Then I read the story and listened again. It is so powerful”.
Janice Long, BBC Radio 2
Emma has shared a bill with artists including Gabrielle Aplin and The Magic Numbers, and is currently working on a new collaboration due for release in the second half of 2022.
Emma's latest EP, Somebody's Story, brings to life true stories sent to her by friends and fans. Its release in April 2017 topped the iTunes Singer Songwriter chart and sold out The Green Note in Camden, where she performed the songs with her band and read the stories that inspired them.
